Calibration of the Demand Simulator in a Dynamic Traffic Assignment System

چکیده
In this thesis, we present a methodology to jointly calibrate the O-D estimation and prediction and driver route choice models within a Dynamic Traffic Assignment (DTA) system using several days of traffic sensor data. The methodology for the calibration of the O-D estimation module is based on an existing framework adapted to suit the sensor data usually collected from traffic networks. The parameters to be calibrated include a database of time-varying historical O-D flows, variance-covariance matrices associated with measurement errors, a set of autoregressive matrices that capture the spatial and temporal inter-dependence of O-D flows, and the route choice model parameters. Issues involved in calibrating route choice models in the absence of disaggregate data are identified, and an iterative framework for jointly estimating the parameters of the O-D estimation and route choice models is proposed. The methodology is applied to a study network extracted from the Orange County region in California. The feasibility and robustness of the approach are indicated by promising results from validation tests. Thesis Supervisor: Moshe E. Ben-Akiva Title: Edmund K. Literature Review of Traffic Assignment: Static and Dynamic
Rapid urban growth is resulting into increase in travel demand and private vehicle ownership in urban areas. In the present scenario the existing infrastructure has failed to match the demand that leads to traffic congestion, vehicular pollution and accidents. With traffic congestion augmentation on the road, delay of commuters has increased and reliability of road network has decreased. Four s...
متن کاملDTALite: A queue-based mesoscopic traffic simulator for fast model evaluation and calibration
A number of emerging dynamic traffic analysis applications, such as regional or statewide traffic assignment, require a theoretically rigorous and computationally efficient model to describe the propagation and dissipation of system congestion with bottleneck capacity constraints. An open-source light-weight dynamic traffic assignment (DTA) package, namely DTALite, has been developed to allow a...
متن کاملCalibration of Dynamic Traffic Assignment Models
Accurate calibration of demand and supply simulators within a Dynamic Traffic Assignment (DTA) system is critical for the provision of consistent travel information and efficient traffic management. Emerging traffic surveillance devices such as Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) technology provide a rich source of disaggregate traffic data. This thesis presents a methodology for calibration...
متن کاملOn Calibration and Application of Logit-Based Stochastic Traffic Assignment Models
There is a growing recognition that discrete choice models are capable of providing a more realistic picture of route choice behavior. In particular, influential factors other than travel time that are found to affect the choice of route trigger the application of random utility models in the route choice literature. This paper focuses on path-based, logit-type stochastic route choice models, i...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Dynamic Traffic Assignment System for Short-Term Planning Applications
Evaluation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) at the planning level, as well as various short-term planning projects, require the use of appropriate tools that can capture the dynamic and stochastic interactions between demand and supply. The objective of this thesis is to develop a methodological framework for such applications and implement it in the context of an existing dynamic tr...
